  1. Started at 9am on my brothers avalanche... sadly this thing hasn't seen a coat of wax or a quality washing since shortly after he got it... as you can see from the before shots he is NOT following the tips for limiting swirls & scratches to the paint... this is perfect evidence of what poor wash habits and occasional trips to the car wash (even the hand wash) will do to your paint... BTW this was AFTER I HAD WASHED IT I intended to get a lot more shots of it in process, but with the 90+ degree temp, the constantly changing ambient light, and the fact I worked a double yesterday I just got a couple. Process was as follows: Washed with DER Stuff car soap, 2 bucket method w/ 2 grit gaurds & sheep skin mit. Wheels cleaned with 50% simple green - water mixture, coarse wheel brush for rubber and fenders, boars hair brush and mf mit for rims. Dried with white waffle weave microfiber towel & air compressor. Clayed with Adams purple clay. Trim treated with Adams V.R.T. + wheel wells w/ invisible undercarriage spray 1 pass w/ orange durafoam pad on PC w/ Swirl & Haze Remover for the heavy scratches. 1 pass w/ white durafoam pad on PC w/ Fine Machine Polish to eliminate some of the trails left by the orange pad and any remaining swirls. 1 pass w/ gray durafoam pad on PC w/ Machine Superwax for depth (cured for 2 hours) Sealed w/ Optiseal (STUFF IS ****ING AMAZING!! Thanks Chris @ GGD!!) Wheels polished by hand with mothers Chrome Polish, sealed w/ Rejex This was my test panel... this was the first pass w/ the orange pad and S&HR After the white pad and fine machine polish As you can tell it was hard getting a good angle on the light... the sun was starting to come into the garage, there were next to no defects left after this... just a few minor pits and a scratch that was too deep to buff out THE FINAL RESULTS!!
  2. Still using the good old PC... I do want a UDM, but after reading some of the issues people are having on autopia I think I'll wait till my PC dies. By then the UDM should have all the bugs worked out in concept its a great machine... just has a few kinks to get straight and it'll be better than the PC IMO.
  3. You don't buff off a compound... it needs to be wet on the pad as you're applying to do any good, then wiped off with a MF polishing cloth after its been worked into the surface. If the scratches aren't thru the clear a mild compound and a med. grade foam pad on a PC 7424 should be able to get them out with a few passes.
  4. 100% The biggest mistake most people make with almost any product is using TOO MUCH... using too much product is just as bad as not using enough. When you slather on heavy coats of product it never has a chance to cure completely. Very true... the stuff most assembly line car washes use is formulated to strip dirt and grime as quickly as possible and this is detrimental to your protective wax or sealer. Even worse is the brushes and stuff that the average car wash uses... those spinning brushes are rarely (if ever cleaned) so the contaminants from all the vehicles that went thru before you are still on there... being dragged across your paint at a high rate of speed.
  5. There was an extensive review and writeup by a member on the ICE liquid claybar on Autopia.org... pretty much it was determined that its nothing more than a cleaner wax, it doesn't have any of the contamination removal properties of a claybar. More than anything I think Turtle Wax was trying to capitalize on consumer ignorance with that name. If you're at an autoparts store and see all these waxes something that says "LIQUID CLAYBAR" stands out more than "Cleaner Wax".
  6. If you're not limiting yourself to Zaino I just updated my How To thread yesterday: http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13451
  7. HAHA... you knew it was coming man... it wasn't a matter of IF... just WHEN it was gonna die. Good thing the toy shop is close by and good at what they do. I'm sure they'll get you back on the road in no time.
  8. I'll chime in real quick here: Benefits to zaino over DER - anti-static... zaino has it, der doesn't... this means the truck "theoretically" should attract less dust... if its big enough to justify the switch is really up to the end user. zaino also offers far more 'between' steps and mixture possabilites for a range of correcting, protection, shine. I have used both and there is no doubt zaino is a better product by just a little bit, but for ease of use and cost DER wins... detailed side by side (basic zaino vs der) I don't think most people could tell a difference. They both use a very similar synthetic polymer makeup so at their core the 2 are very similar.
  9. I'm rarely over here anymore... but TrailblazerSS.com is your guys sister site and I'm there all the time... WTF? you guys aren't scared are ya
  10. Dammit!! You bastards!! Wish I would've known you guys were getting together... I didn't have shit going on most of the day I totally would've been there.
  11. To each their own I guess.... but.... #1 Other people have complained about the seats so thats not entirely new... I personally think they're much more comfortable than the seats in my SSS ever were... again theres a mixed bag of opinions on this. #2 Oddly enough I wouldn't say this at all... the steering is responsive, but maybe you were getting more bump steer b/c it was an AWD... my 2WD will go down the roughest of roads in a straight line without having to fight the wheel at all. #3 Curb weight on the TBSS 2wd is 4496, AWD is 4663 curb weight on the Silvy SS 2wd is 4947... so I don't see how it seemed heavier to you coming from a SSS?? #4 Leather seats w/ suede inserts isn't that much of an upgrade from the regular TB??? And the rear cargo area is identical btw unless you're comparing to the longer base TB model.... as for upgrades over its standard counterpart what does the Silvy SS have over the regular SS... pretty much the same thing... a couple of logos, leather, and thats it. #5 TBSS's are running high 13's stock... they are faster than the Silvy SS stock for stock. #6 Can't argue with you on this one... my wife goes nuts when shes behind the wheel.
  12. Hey guys... long time no post... just happened to stop by and see that chase posted the pics of my detail work on his truck. Let me add that after getting a short ride in that beast... it is THE BADDEST MOFO on the street... PERIOD. Total package... looks good, sounds good, and runs like a raped ape with a hot poker in its ass. Heres the rest of the pics I shot... paint came out great... there were some spots I wasn't 100% happy with (think I could've gotten more shine out of) but all in all it came out great and Chase was happy so thats what counts
  13. Agreed... but just by looking at the date on the article its pretty obvious it was old news:
  14. Its a 2 function peice of the system.... Yes... it does act as a silencer, but it is also an engineered part of the system that allows the kit to produce tq at certain RPM range.
  15. New jobs killer... love it... the hours actually ended up being a better arrangement with the baby, also a lot of cool "truck guys" I work with now... bagged OBS tahoes, couple of sick denali's... a REALLY sick lifted duramax. I won't make it to FF, but I will definitely be at Truck Jam... GMFS has a shit ton of guys rollin in from AZ to meet up with Norcal and Socal guys so it should be fun... you should roll to that one. Working on the toon... I've been really busy but I put some more work in this morning.
  16. Technically its a faux-hawk... what little hair he has is being styled. Lovin' it... but sadly it leaves very little time for anything else right now... the TBSS is getting neglected as is a lot of other stuff... guess the priorities just got rearranged. Hes 3 and a half months right now... and I'm still adjusting. Thanks.

    calling out

Too bad you guys are on the other side of the US.... it'd be nice to get out and run with ya (or at least try to)
  18. Those things are easily corrected with a tune... its highly unlikely you'd be able to manually shift well enough to overcome it.
  19. Just run it in drive... theres no advantage to manually shifting these trucks
  20. Being that the house is in Palos Verdes... I'd be willing to guess you could sell it for WAY more than $1.5million if you sat on it for a couple of years.
