  1. I here what you're saying about the o2's. I think the difference is that I only race my truck now so the limited amount of driving may gat me some more life out of them. Plus, I'm pretty sure I've tuned them out now anyway. That leads me to my next statement...I do my own tuning now for the most part.
  2. Well, after I got my first tune from pcmforless, I noticed pinging. Perhapds it's because we don't have any higher than 91 in CA. No one ever said I "needed" higher than 93. For one, I can't get 93 as I've stated and two, I just feel better about running 110 leaded gas. I don't have to worry about cat's or smog so I figure, why not. Sure I don't "need" the 110 but I've won a lot of races with it and run my quickest times with it so I'm sticking to it. My plugs look fine and everything runs great so I have no complaints. Mr. P...Why is gutting cats a waste of money? IS removing them all together really the best route?
  3. Search the how to thread. Mr. P did a great how to on this. Despite what Qwik said, higher octane will make it run better and cleaner. Whether one needs it or not is a matter of opinion. I have noticed through countless runs on the drag strip that I run more consistent with leaded racing gas than with cheap pump shyt CA has to offer. My o2's are just fine and I've been running it for over a year now. As far as hurting your motor, a clogged cat is one of the worse things for your motor so I say gut em! Qwik, I respect your opinions but you are wrong. In my stock application, I have had knock several times with 91. Based on what you said, what am I supposed to do when that happens??? Just listen to my motor die a slow death? Higher octane would be the answer.
  4. Just gut em while there off!
  5. I run VP 110 leaded race gas only (sometimes C12). I don't have any cats so that's not a worry for me. My timing table is pretty aggressive so I need all the octane I can get. I mainly use it because of racing consistency.
  6. After a couple rounds of racing this past weekend, I noticed little puddles under the truck as I left my pit area. I recently changed my fluid and I think I overfilled it. I traced the leak to a vent type hose that I didn't know existed above the transfer case. Does this sound pretty common or do I have bigger issue?
  7. Nice reaction time! Gotta take less stripe next time brother!
  8. I know plenty of very high HP drag cars with 700R4's that are just fine. If you want a 3 speed, I have a Turbo 400 you could have!
  9. Chase, wat converter failed? Also, I think you should have gone with the 3200 but that's just because that's what I have and I am biased! IMHO, if the 65e blows you should go with an old school 700R4. It'll hold your power but it's only a 4 speed.
  10. Congrats! What a great accomplishment. I just graduated myself in January and it is a tremendous feeling. Mine was about 5 years late but better late than never I guess. Way to go!!!
  11. Do you still have those retrofitted MSD's you talked about in the post? If so, I'm interested.
  12. Anyone know how to do this? Is there something that you buy or what??? Thanks...
  13. Welcome aboard! Best of luck with your truck and your future plans for it.
  14. Anyone remember or know the capacity? I have an aftermarket, larger cooler. Also, is the Dex VI good for a racing application or should I stick with the Mobil 1 or Lucas type stuff? Thanks...

    Oil Change

I finally got around to changing my oil yesterday (I seem to have trouble staying on top of it now that my SSS isn't a DD anymore). I last changed it in March and I ran it a quart low (5) to try to go faster to fit into a class at Super Chevy. The quart low thing is an old Stock Eliminator trick that I thought I would try. Well, I forgot that I did and between then and now I've probably logged close to 100 runs down the track. My oil when I drained it looked like a thin caramel syrup and it appered to very dirty. It didn't smell right either. Note to self...Going quicker isn't as fun as a damaged motor! I hope I didn't hurt her too bad. I filled her back up with SIX quarts of Mobil 1 5w20 and it appeared to run really strong on my test drive so I think I dodged a bullet just in time.
  16. Thanks! I'm really torn here. I don't need cats so I don't know which way to go. I got a quote from Jet Hot for a set of Pace Setters coated inside and out for $565 shipped. I'm looking for easy instalation and cost mostly.
  17. It's not that they were tired of messing with it. In fact, the owners of LACR very much enjoyed running that track. The problem is that many tracks are on leased land or owned by other entities. Fontana, for example, is owned by ISC Corporation who only really cares about NASCAR. LACR was owned by a Granite Company that owned all of the land. They won some new big contracts and needed the actual ground that the track was sitting on to make more product so bye bye track. It all comes down to money. The only dragstrip that I know of in California that is privately owned is Famoso in Bakersfield. The problem there is that it is still a business which requires one to make money. Because it's so far out in the sticks, their car counts are usually low which means the track (or owner) isn't making any money. Another reason for a track to close. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention noise and polution issues too. Unfortunately, racing in general may be a dying breed, especially for the sportsman drag racer.
  18. Is OBX a quality product though? Does the you get what you pay for thing apply here? The OBX's look great but why are they only on ebay and why so cheap???
  19. You're joking right? I bought the Edelbrocks a while back and I never felt a damn thing. They look cool but that's about it.
  20. That's what electrical tape is for! I already have it covering up the DIC and the airbag light from when I removed my passenger seat.
  21. I'm an old school bracket racer and I wear an open faced helmet. The main reason is because I want to change steering wheels and I'm afraid it'll blow up in my face when I go to do it.
  22. Anyone know how this is done? I sit closer to my steering wheel when racing and I'd hate for it to go off by mistake or in the event of an accident and kill me!
