  1. I once saw an article that made the case that Bush is smarter thang Gore. Mostly based on grades in college. Looking at my transcript would make me look pretty stupid, though, so...
  2. Why not? Seems like a fun project, though no doubt expensive. Electrics can be very fast, if you don't mind sacrificing range to do it. This home brew 1972 Datsun conversion has a best 1/4 mile ET 12.151 @ 106.25 mph And this one does 11.039 at 11.8 mph. Did I mention that electric motors have full torque at 0 rpm?
  3. Try summit or Jegs Here is a link to my B&M install. Has part numbers for the fittings you need to buy. I used a small pipe cutter instead of a hack saw because I was worried about metal chips getting back into the line. Hooking it up this way still leaves the "cooler" in the bottom of the radiator in series with my B&M cooler. I think this may be good to keep things warm enough when it is cold out, but cool enough when it is hot. I seem to recall it only got up to 170-175 degrees going uphill in the Rocky Mountains pulling a 5000 lb trailer. Installed my B&M Transmission Cooler
  4. Those pumps can be a bit noisey, but I have never noticed mine while driving (windows up, radio on).
  5. This site only has back to 1999 online TrailerLife Tow Ratings But you can email them for older ones, at a cost of $3.95 each. (see fine print at the bottom of the page). Now that I think about it, I ought to print out 2003, it will drop off in a few more years This website http://www.trailerboats.com/towrating/ gives these results for a 1993 1500: Tow Limit 8500 lbs 1993 Chevrolet K1500 Pickup (4WD) 5.7 V-8 Requires Z82 Trailering Special Package. Requires automatic transmission. Requires engine-oil cooler. Requires transmission-oil cooler. Requires weight-distributing hitch. Requires 4.10:1 axle ratio. It goes down to 7500 for the 2 wheel drive model So, at a guess, I would say that 8000 lbs is somewhat over the max for a 1/2 ton. But boats are easier to tow (more aerodynamic than a brick shaped trailer), so the engine should not be the limiting factor. The 1999 1500 with 5.3 engine aned 3.73 axle ratio, was rated at 8200 lbs. The 2003 SS is rated for 7500 lbs but the 2003 1500 EC with 5.3 is rated for 8000 (with 3.73 axle ratio) Since it looks like your friend will be towing close to or above the limits of his truck, check the axle ratio of the truck. 3.73 or higher would be good for towing. Add a big transmission cooler (assuming an automatic transmission).
  6. I have a Tekonsha Envoy, which I bought for renting a trailer once. Since then I have bought my own trailer. The Envoy is considered to be the minimum decent brake controller (inertial) Don't confuse inertial with "surge" type brakes, they are the ones that can have trouble backing up. Surge brakes are mostly seen on boat trailers. Tekonsha Envoy Tekonsha Prodigy The Prodigy is highly regarded. I am going to upgrade to a Jordan when they get their new model into production. It is supposed to be even better than the Prodigy. If you want to learn more about towing: www.rv.net Towing subforum
  7. Tried that, cat would not touch the tainted food BTW, wouldn't that be "paws-i-traction"? ;)
  8. I have been going through that exact thing. Cat would spit the pill right out! Went back to the vet to get liquid version. Wrap the cat in a blanket, force the mouth open, squirt medicine into the cat's mouth, hold mouth shut, hope the cat will eventually swallow. Relase the cats mouth, cat starts foaming and spitting out the medicine. Repeat twice a day! Just finished 14 days worth of that routine, not sure how much of it actually made it into the cat

    I'm lost

You should sit down and figure out what buying a new vehicle every 6-7 months is costing you! The depreciation on new vehicles is staggering. Think of what you could do with all that money you are wasting by changing every 6-7 months... You could have a down payment on a house, supercharger for the SS, your own big screen TV, or gas for the SS
  10. Ummm... I forget. It has been a few years ;) I think it was from PepBoys as an electric radiator fan thermostatic switch. Look for the accessories for the DIY electric fans they sell, assuming they still sell them. Pep Boys seems to be selling more scooters and chromed bling stuff than auto parts these days.
  11. My commute is about a dozen steps from the bedroom to the computer room My "gas" milage varies with the bean consumption
  12. My whole house is only 1250 sq feet
  13. Be sure and read the fine print on that... I checked on that once, they wanted 29% intrest on the use those checks!
  14. I got mine through JDM. You need to call and see if they still carry them, they never did list them on the website. The picture is small, but this looks like the one that I used: Fluidyne FHP30-LIGHTNING 99-04 SVT Lightning 3 Row - Heat Exchanger On Fluidyne's Dealer finder page, Summit Racing is supposed to carry the full line of Fluidyne products. See if they can special order it for you. Try google searching on the part number "FHP30-LIGHTNING" These guys have it listed for $445 MCP Performance $439 from these guys (they also have some AFCO exchangers that look interesting.Lethal Performance You can see some details on how I installed my Fluidyne here : Intercooler Heat Exchanger Upgrade, Fun project for my Radix Whichever ecxhanger you use, verify the outside dimensions before ordering. The Lightning apparently has a bit more room for the heat exchanger than we do, and it is a tight fit between the frame.
  15. It happened to me around 10 years ago. I always thought that people stole the plates for the purpose of selling unlicensed vehicles or using the plates on a car to commit crimes. Obviously these are criminal types, being caught with the wrong plates on your car is a quick way to jail.
  16. Keep in mind, logs are kept of where you go. They have more data than they actually look at regularly, but if they see something suspicious, they can get a lot of detail on what you are doing. While they may not have the actual sites you are visiting via the proxy, sooner or later somebody is going to notice that a lot of traffic has been going to the proxy site and plug the hole. They will also notice who has been using it and perhaps assume the worst about what sites you have been visiting. Most larger employers have polices about Internet use at work and disciplinary actions taken for abuse of it. Also, there is usually some boiler plate about privacy expectations (you have none). The company can seize you PC and view cached images, history files, emails, etc. Remember, it is their PC and their network you are using. Keep a low profile and avoid the naughty stuff if you value your job.
  17. Now that would be funny, the cavemen sitting around the fire, roasting a lizard
  18. Mine seems silent until it reaches boost, then it gets that lovely supercharger whine, but not too loud. The only bad sounds it makes are a squealing sound as the bypass valve closes (as it transitions from NA to Boost). It can be annoying if you are going up a hill and the throttle position needed lands in the squeal zone. The other noise is the fuel pump. I don't recall if the stock fuel pump made any sound or not, but the extra fuel pump that is installed with the radix (this is for older SS's with external fuel pumps). But you can only hear that when outside the truck. Oh, yeah, almost forgot, there is that screaming sound your wallet makes when you buy the Radix, but that goes away pretty quick
  19. Lord of the Rings (yes, there was a book before the movie ;) ) Lost count of how many times I have read it.
  20. Here is the Tow Rating Bible TrailerLife Annual Towing Guides 2007 Silverado/Sierra 1500Ext Cab 2WD Standard Bed 6.0L V-8 with 3.73:1 axle ration and factory towing package, can tow 8,800 lbs That goes up to 10,300 lbs with the heavy duty towing package. For the 2003 SS it is rated at 7,500 lbs You might also find rv.net to be useful to study. There is a towing section in the forums.
  21. Try this little program. It is one of the handiest things I have on my computer. http://joshmadison.com/software/convert/ 29.3 inches of mercury = 99.22117 kilopascals By the way, I am awful at math, that is my I use a computer
  22. Excellent taste in color Since it looks like the previous owner did some grill mods, you might want to check for indications that other mods were done and removed. Like freshly turned bolts on the intake manifold might indicate the removal of a supercharger. That would warrent some extra inspection to see if the engine suffered any damage from it.
  23. Some people sure are gullible You know they would never do that. They would have some emergency need for more taxes, and reinstate the per gallon tax as well. Government has a never ending appetite for you money
