  1. Now there is in invention whose time has come, double windows.... One set to roll up to show the police, the other set with the tint when you want to be cool
  2. If you are willing to resist the temptation to mess around with the tune or do other mods, the Radix will be fine for a long time. I have 60,000 miles on my SS and 57,500 of which have been supercharged. It is when you start messing with torque managment or adding a bunch of power from something else, that you will break the transmission. Pretty soon I will have my SS paid off and save up a transmission's worth of money, then I can start doing some more power mods... ;)
  3. It's an Ibex, only sold online. Supposed to be somewhere between Cross Country and All Mountain catagories. http://www.ibexbikes.com/Bikes/ASTA-COMP-X7-Details.html Great way to get some fat burning exercise and have fun at the same time
  4. Home made Toll House recipe Chocolate Chips cookies are the ultimate Speaking of which, there are a couple pans of them in the kitchen now....
  5. Not to spoil the fun, but how are you going to get this past emmisions testing?
  6. Mountain Biking is about as close to a sport as a geek like me can get
  7. Have you tried browsing the fan department at Summit? Measure your intercooler and look around. Even if the available fans are bigger than the intercooler, you can block the part of the fan that extends beyond the intercooler to keep it pulling (or pushing) the air through rather than around the intercooler. A pair of fans will make a noticable difference in the time it takes to cool down the coolant after a full throttle run. Here is a 7" fan http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku Perma Cool 8" http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku
  8. GCWR Gross Combined Weight Rating (weight of truck plus trailer) 14,000 lbs GVWR Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (how much the truck can weigh) 6,400 lbs GAWR Front Gross Axle Weight Rating (how much the front axle can weigh) 3,650 lbs GAWR Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating (how much the rear axle can weigh) 3,600 lbs Tow Rating (maximum recommended trailer weight), of 7,500 lbs. Since the truck itself weighs about 5200 lbs, you have a reserve capacity (for people cargo, etc) of 1,200 lbs, which happens to be about 1/2 a ton, which is why they call them 1/2 ton trucks You can see that you run out of GVWR before you run out of towing capacity. You have 1,200 lbs of reserver GVWR to work with, subtracting driver and passengers weights, weight of the engine/transmission you are hauling, and the tongue weight of the trailer. So using some guesses: 200 Driver 900 Engine/Trans 600 Trailer Tongue Weight (3000 lb car on 1000 lb trailer=4000 lb trailer weight. Tongue weight it typically 15% of trailer weight). 1700 lbs of weight added to the truck (5200 lbs + 1700 lbs = 6900 lbs), that puts you overweight on the GVWR by 500 lbs. Will that be a problem? Probably not, but use extra care, knowing that you are running over the design limits. Perhaps most important: * Inflate the truck tires to the max printed on the sidewall while towing this much weight. * Use a brake controller. Not sure what your local laws are, but over a certain weight, trailer brakes, and the controller in the truck to activate them, are required. In this case, it would make sense irregardless of the law. Despite all the advertising, 1/2 Ton trucks really are not all that good for heavy towing. But I run right at my GVWR when towing my travel trailer, and so far, no complaints. I am looking into getting a better brake controller, as I notice my trucks brakes really do seem to be taking beating when I tow. A better controller will transfer more of the braking load to the trailer and get things balanced out.
  9. I don't think they make politicians like that anymore. ;) Yes, it is rather interesting to witness an event, and then see it reported on the news (print or TV). The distortions of perspective are truly scary, when you think about how many people just take it as unbiased fact. My hat is off to our military. A thankless job, risking their lives in a most unpleasant place, so that we can enjoy peace at home.
  10. Why on earth would you send money orders to somebody on ebay? Money orders are money out the window if something goes wrong, no tracing, no refunds. I would not do bussiness with somebody who requires them as payment.
  11. Depends on what your idea of how to unwind is. Wifey likes the Apple Farm in San Luis Obispo a lot http://www.applefarm.com/ Nearby Montana de Oro State Park has some great hiking. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=592 Big Sur is a great place to relax too, but accommodations are a bit sparse.
  12. I tow a 5,000 pound trailer with my SS/Radix setup. The extra power is nice, but I try to avoid using it for very long. The thing about any power adder, if you have it engaged for long periods of time, such as 30 minutes of a long steep grade, you are going to be building up a lot of heat. Every thing from Exhaust Gas Temps to engine coolant and transmission temps are going to be on the rise. The thing that worries me most are things like exhaust valves and catalytic converters getting too hot and melting. My transmission is stock, but I do have an over-sized B&M transmission cooler which keeps the transmission happy even in hot weather pulling up a grade. Here is Southern California, there is a steep grade called the Grapevine on the 5 fwy. It is steep enough that the bypass valve on the radix wants to close and start boosting, so I shift the transmission down to 3, which keeps the RPMs up and the engine vacuum up too. MPG remains about the same, only 4 MPG on the grade (I get 10 MPG on flat freeway driving at 55-60 mph).
  13. It is part of the "emmisions system". Removing it will not doubt cause your check engine light to come on.
  14. I had my '03 AWD SS weighed with a 1/4 tank of fuel, the extra weight of the supercharger and the BedRug, it came out to : 5238 lbs total 3163 lbs front 2075 lbs rear
  15. So I can just peel off the CARB certification sticker from my old Radix, and put it on top of the "off road use only" sticker on the MP122H and be good to go?

  17. GCWR Gross Combined Weight Rating (weight of truck plus trailer) 14,000 lbs GVWR Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (how much the truck can weigh) 6,400 lbs GAWR Front Gross Axle Weight Rating (how much the front axle can weight) 3,650 lbs GAWR Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating (how much the rear axle can weight) 3,600 lbs I have also seen a Tow Rating (maximum recommended trialer weight), of 7,500 lbs. But that was not from GM. Since the truck itself weighs about 5200 lbs, you have a reserve capacity (for people cargo, etc) of 1,200 lbs, which happens to be about 1/2 a ton, which is why they call them 1/2 ton trucks ;) So to answer your question, since the SS and regular Silverado Ext Cab's are both rated at 6,400 lbs GVWR, the reserve capacity will depend o the weight of the truck. Since an SS has all the options plus heavy wheels/tires and cladding, it will have slightly less reserve capacity than a regular Silverado Ext Cab
  18. I keep a spare key in my wallet. Experience is a hard, but true teacher
  19. My Radix came with a 3.1 pulley, and I have 55,000 miles on it with the stock tune. You will be fine.
  20. Anybody know how many amps you can get off the stock alternator while the engine idles? I am thinking of using an power inverter (12 volt to 120 Volt AC) to power a high draw battery charger for my trailer. I know, sounds kinda weird going from 12 volt to 120 vac and back to 12 volt. But it does make sense... I think... Edit: the inverter I am considering is a 1000 watt, which works out to 83 amps at 12 volts. That would be the max draw.
  21. There is a reason they give you those high credit limits on the credit cards.... Just go for it
  22. A little JB Weld and it will be fine....
  23. The Radix will work fine on 91 octane, even the crap we get here in California.
