  1. Thanks Mr.P. I won't do anything until I get the timing right. I ran almost as fast with the stock cam, stock tune and a TB converter. I know the KR is killing it off the line. It is stronger on the street from a roll than it is going down the track. With the KR pulling the timing, it pretty much stays retarded the whole run. I am really considering getting someone else to tune it instead of taking it back to the guy that did it. He has already adjusted once, but I can't seem to get him to the track like we had discussed for some logged runs and track tuning. As far as the Zpack clutches, So far so good. I have all Zpack clutches and a Kevlar band with a Transgo kit. I don't know what will happen with the juice but I guess I'll find out. I'm gonna run it til it breaks. I am a GM technician, so it ain't like it's a big deal to fix it.
  2. OK, so my new girlfriend was a total track virgin, we went last night and she loved it. She is hooked. She also had never driven my truck before. I finally talked her into making a pass with me in the truck. She did it then made a solo pass, beating my previous best LOL!! However, I did redeam myself with a new best not much better than hers though. The 13's are calling my name but have been just out of reach. Here are the times. Her best RT - .581 60ft - 2.1 1/8th - 9.07 1/4 - 14.21 MPH - 93.84 My best RT - .534 60ft - 1.9 1/8th - 9.04 1/4 - 14.17 MPH - 94.12 She is already asking if she can make a pass once I put on the N2O. I am having KR off the line. If I can fix that, I will be in the 13's, I'm sure. I am pulling 7 degrees timing out of the hole. I think the PCM is mistaking the exhaust (long tubes with no cats) for spark knock. My tuner said he could make it less sensitive to KR, I just need to get together with him. 12's are waiting for me with the N2O but I set a goal of 13's with no spray. I'll keep you posted.
  3. I know it's not an SS and I know how some feel about imports but I got to share this with you guys. My buddy has an Evo 9 and has recently added a turbo upgrade, cams, and meth. He was already running high 11's with his other mods. He made 537hp, 410tq to the ground at 27psi boost. It is the highest hp Evo on a stock bottom end in the country. He is planning on rod bolts and possibly studding the head. He is expecting mid 10's if he can get decent traction. He doesn't want to hook really well because it will probably start breaking stuff. I will repost when we have some numbers. That is pretty impressive stuff for a 4 banger, I don't care what it is.

    Mustang Kill

SSThunder, your hood looks sick. Did you ever get your money back for that cam?

    Mustang Kill

Even better than that, my divorce just became final, and my girlfriend is 10 years younger than I am.
  6. I have had 1.98-1.99 60's even before the cam, stall and tune with a TB converter. After the cam it was like 2.1 or something before the Yank. Now it is back under 2.0. I can't imagine launching at 3200 with 2wd, it would smoke the tires. My best was a 9.07 1/8th and a 14.26 1/4. I haven't had a good run since the cam and tune. I am having 6-7 degrees KR out of the hole and have not been able to get with my tuner at the track yet so I haven't run it anymore. I was expecting 8's and 13's with the mods I have done since the best times were on the stock cam and tune with a TB converter. It was colder then though.

    Mustang Kill

OK, so Friday night, I was coming home from playing putt-putt with my girlfriend, her son and my daughter. Yep 4 people in the truck too. A yellow 95-ish GT with skinnies on the front, monster tach, A-pillar gauges, the whole nine yards, comes up beside me. I was running about 65 mph. He must have downshifted because everytime he would punch the throttle, I could see the shift light come on. It sounded good and not so stock, I figured I would get burned. He gave a few quick punches of the throttle and took off. I just ignored him at first so he tapped the brakes and slowed back down beside me. This went on for a couple of miles. My girlfriend said "go ahead baby, I think it's kinda sexy", hell that's all I needed. I backed down to about 60, I knew my trans would drop to second at that speed. We both punched it and away we went. I steadily pulled away from him up to about 90 mph and let off. He went on by and then slowed back to where I was. Man, he was looking at my truck like WTF?? Then I guess he figured it was a fluke and he punched it again. I let him go that time so he slowed back down and got beside me and gave a few more punches. Again, I slowed to about 60 and killed it. We ran up to about 120 that time and I was still steadily pulling away. I had him by about 3 cars by 120 and started pedalling the throttle to get under his skin. We slowed back down and he got in front of me. We rode this way for another mile or 2 and he darted into the turning lane. I figured he was going to stop at the store and maybe talk. When I turned behind him, he kept going and wouldn't stop. That was my first road kill and boy was it good to me. My truck is still not running like I want it to but it was good enough for him. I still want N02!!!
  8. BG products make something called 44K. It is a tank additive. 1 can to 10 gallons. It can be purchased at a lot of dealers. We use it all the time. It is designed as a preventative, not so much as a repair but I have known it to improve idle quality in some with dirty injectors causing a funny spray pattern. I think our Parts Department sells it for about $20 a can. I run all BG products in my SS. All the fluids are synthetic, except for the oil, I use Mobil 1.

    a/c problem

If it rattles really loud when you rev it up and the ac tensioner is jumping when revved, it is the compressor. They have a problem with internal sludging causing them to bind up. Make sure you check the tensioner well, the little stop ear on the tensioner tend to get broken off when they are jumping back and forth so hard.
  10. Why in the world did you not install it?
  11. It would be worth it if you play with the truck much. I would stick with something low stall. Maybe a TB converter, or something around 2600. I had a TB and it did fine, I installed a Yank 3200 and it definately hurt fuel mileage. If I had it to do over I would have stuck with something lower. I am actually thinking about putting the TB back in.
  12. So realistically if I'm running 14.25 or lower off the bottle, I should easily see some 12's on the bottle with 100-125 shot right?
  13. You definately have an issue somewhere. I was running 9.0's in the 1/8th and mid 14's with basically the same mods you have on a stock tune. That was at 50 degree weather though. With all mods listed and a Yank 3200 stall, my best 1/8th recently has been a 9.23 and the 1/4 with the TBTC was 14.25 I have issues too. My tuner found some timing and KR issues Friday and adjusted for them. We'll see.
  14. I see your best ET is well into the 12's. What do you run off the bottle? I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect when I spray. Zippy, I see you do a lot of tuning and I would guess most of it is mail order. How do you achieve accurate tunes without ever touching the vehicle? My tuner found issues after tuning mine. I had taken it back for him to tweak after installing the Yank 3200 and he logged some data and found the timing not what he thought we had and some KR down low, so he reset the timing to 28 degrees and added some more fuel down low. We have talked about meeting at the track to log some runs but haven't gotten together yet. So with him actually having the vehicle and still having issues, how do you do it? By the way, how much do you charge? If we can't work out the bugs, I may just get with you instead.
  15. Have you run it yet? What are your times off the bottle and on the bottle? What size shot are you running?
  16. OK, so I get the Yank ProTruck 3200 in, drive around for a couple of days, no problem. Then the SES light pops on and full line pressure. Let me tell you, max pressure and a shift kit don't mix. I check it at work and I set a P0894 Trans component Slipping. I figure, yeah the PCM is seeing too much slip speed, the tuner can fix it. I go to the tuner Friday and he logs some data, sees some other issues with the tune (thank God, cause I was not happy with the ET's after the tune) and he notices the converter ain't locking up even when commanded with his software or with the GM Tech2. He said the code is probably setting because of the converter not locking. He made some changes to the tune and advised me to call Dave at Yank on Monday about the converter. Over the weekend the code never reset and I have noticed at times it will lock but if I touch the brake pedal to disengage it, it won't lock back. Keep in mind the TBTC locked fine with no problems. I know it is possible the seal got nicked installing the converter but usually they at least try to lock when that happens.

    Truck went 13's

I am going to run a timing controller so I can still run my timing in the tune for everyday use. The controller will pull it when the N02 kicks in. I have run a best of 14.25 on motor, but I haven't run it with the new converter yet.
  18. Don't be too disappointed when that "as little as possible" turns into "several thousand". I ran high 14's when I bought my truck with only a CAI. Well cam, long tubes, different CAI, custom tune, built tranny, shift kit, converter, and $3,000 later, I still ain't run a 13. Good luck. The cheapest route will be N02 and even that will cost you over a grand to do it safe.
  19. My tuner said 2 degrees for every 50 hp shot. I was at the track the other day and talked to a guy who owns a speed shop. He was there with one of his customers with a Sierra 5.3 RCSB running a 100 hp Zex kit and 13.50's on street tires with CAI, shorty headers, and tune. He said he doesn't pull any timing. Another person said only about a degree for 125 shot. So, what is everybody else doing? I don't want to hurt anything.
  20. With the Thunder Racing Timing Controller, you can set the rpm's at which the N02 kicks in and out, so if you overrev, it will kick out.
  21. When I bought my last cam, the first one cam in and looked like it fell out of the truck and slid down the road. The cam was hanging out of the box and all scraped up. Needless to say, it was not signed for.
  22. I recently went with the 70 series 3 chamber. It has a nice tone to me. I originally had a magnaflow but it was WAY loud. I have "highflow cats" but they really are hollow all the way through so really I don't have cats. I don't have a sound clip and don't really know how to get one or I'd post it. For comparison, I sold the magnaflow to a guy that I work with, he has a stock Tahoe, it sounds kinda weak on his truck. He was disappointed with the sound. I guess no cats makes a huge differenc in the sound regardless of what muffler you use. Ayway, mine is a dual in, single out to the stock tailpipe.
